brellom:

I’ve been giving some thought about where I will maintain my art presence now that tumblr’s no longer a viable platform for my work. I was not inclined towards managing several different platforms at once, but it seems I haven’t much choice in that regard. We’ll see how these roll. Here’s what I decided.

Keep in mind, some of these pages are not up to date with my content, such as my DeviantART, which I haven’t used in years. Expect them to start taking flight as we move into 2019.

Main Base, Communication, Art

Twitter is the most effective way to keep up with me and what I’m doing. I’m very active; I joke a lot, write long threads of tweets about Skyrim, and sometimes I’m introspective. I criticize world events, but I try not to do so too much.

It’s the closest mainstream social media outlet to Tumblr, with it’s chronological timeline. I’ll share art, but they can get lost in twitter’s interface sometimes.

DeviantArt
https://www.deviantart.com/brellom

SFW Illustration, Content that is not outright pornographic

DeviantArt will be my dedicated gallery space for the foreseeable future. It lacks the ease of communication that Tumblr had, but it is a mainstream art platform & is designed for gallery curation.

It’s more ideal for hosting high-quality, finished illustrations – which I’ll be doing more of once 2019 begins.

Pixiv
https://www.pixiv.net/member.php?id=13459143

image

NSFW Illustration, Erotic, Objectionable

Pixiv is a Japanese website, but there are plenty of Westerners on the platform, and even an English version of the website.

Pixiv’s lenient guidelines make it a great platform for posting erotic artwork. The website allows erotic subjects I don’t often draw, but I enjoy having the creative freedom to pursue those subjects if I ever want to. It supports multiple pages per gallery item, which is great for comics & sketch dumps.

However, genitals need to be censored and YOU need an account to view any erotic content. A bit unfortunate, but these things happen.

Piczel
https://piczel.tv/gallery/brellom

image

NSFW Illustration, Erotic, Objectionable

Piczel has been around for a while, but they’re in the process of updating their layout and updating their gallery features. They also allow NSFW content.

Additionally, you are not required to have an account JUST to view NSFW art.

It’s interface is clean, so the focus is entirely on the art. I fully expect to use it’s gallery, which is great if you’re too lazy to make an account on Pixiv. It is also an art streaming website, so that’s cool. I’m willing to try it out.

Streams are the only place where I’m even considering taking on commissions.
Speaking of streaming, also keep an eye on my other outlets:

Patreon is not a social media outlet, but it is a big part of my online presence.

Through Patreon, you can directly support me with by pledging money. This is a big help, as it assures that I can continue to eat & make art. It is my main source of income.

I plan to produce more Female Link comics in the future, and I hope to involve patrons in the creative process, and talk to them about my ideas in general.

Perks Include:

  • Early Access to my art (and ideas)
  • Full Transparency; I keep my patrons informed
  • Dropbox Archive of EVERYTHING (high resolution)
  • NSFW Sketch Suggestions (suggest ideas for art)

Additional Social Interaction and crap

Not social media, but another method of communication.

My discord is often a quiet, little community, but I check it throughout the day. It’s filled with other people who think I’m cool – so maybe you’ll fit right in. There are channels for sharing our art too. Note: I need to step away sometimes, because social interaction drains me. It REALLY drains me.

The rules are fairly simple:

  • Don’t be a jerk. Don’t make me HAVE to moderate you.
  • Properly source all the art you share.

Oh, one last thing:

Here’s a Dropbox Archive of all the art I’ve posted onto tumblr. I don’t know exactly how long this archive will be here, but… Here you go.

image

Subjects are split across different folders, but the filenames are still the typical tumblr jargon – I can’t rename all of them, since there’s A LOT of content.

But all of the artworks that were drawn for me BY OTHER ARTISTS have been named appropriately; with their identity in the filename themselves; usually their twitter handle, but there’s an occasional deviantart & hentai-foundry username.

Random anon again. This is my last message I want to send you (although it's just my 2nd). Thanks for taking the time to look into my comment! I wanted to say one more thing, but the character limit forced me to cut it out. Thanks for putting together all your material from tumblr and putting it out to download! This particular anon has been following your work for a while, & being able to save all the things you've made makes me happy. I'm sure your other followers feel the same way! To 2019!

Yean, no worries. That Dropbox Folder may one day be integrated with my Patreon Dropbox Archive, but for now, it seems like a raw deal for you to lose everything I’ve post on tumblr – since tumblr WAS my primary outlet for YEARS.

I haven’t been posting anywhere else but Twitter - and twitter’s archiving leaves a lot to be desired. Additionally, I only started the Patreon Dropbox Archive this year, so nothing before 2018 is archived there for your convenience. A lot of this stuff would otherwise be lost… And that’s not fun.

I hope to continue making my art a fun experience, but I’m sorry circumstances have led us to where we are today, leaving tumblr, and I’m sorry if I’ve ever let you down. I fully expect the experience I offer will be a slightly different one now, but onward we must go.

Thank you for sticking with me.

I caved in and set up a twitter. It’ll be used mostly to post sketches and WIP stuff. If you enjoyed my sketchdumps, my twitter will be serving the same role until I find anything better.

An archive of this tumblr. It’s not great, and you can’t search it by tags, but it’s there.

Random anon here. Saw that you're moving house over to new platforms. Sucks about what's happening to tumble dumble, & I'll miss everything here. Just wanted to let you know about something I came across talking about DeviantArt. Be very careful while posting new stuff there. If you don't know the submissions policy is actually really devious. If you go to their Submission Policy page and look at "3. License To Use Artist Materials". I've seen a lot of people upset at this, & wanted to let u knw
Asked by Anonymous

Term of this Agreement.

3. License To Use Artist Materials. As and when Artist Materials are uploaded to the DeviantArt Site(s), Artist grants to DeviantArt a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to do the following things during the Term:

a) to prepare and encode Artist Materials or any part of them for digital or analog transmission, manipulation and exhibition in any format and by any means now known or not yet known or invented;

b) to display, copy, reproduce, exhibit, publicly perform, broadcast, rebroadcast, transmit, retransmit, distribute through any electronic means (including analog and digital) or other means, and electronically or otherwise publish any or all of the Artist Materials, including any part of them, and to include them in compilations for publication, by any and all means and media now known or not yet known or invented ;

c) to modify, adapt, change or otherwise alter the Artist Materials (e.g., change the size) and use the Artist Materials as described in Section 3(b); and

d) the right to sublicense to any other person or company any of the licensed rights in the Artist Materials, or any part of them, subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement.

e) Artist acknowledges that Artist will not have any right, title, or interest in any other materials with which Artist Materials may be combined or into which all or any portion of Artist Materials may be incorporated.

f) During the Term, DeviantArt’s licenses under this Agreement include the right to use any part of the Artist Materials in the promotion, advertising or marketing of the DeviantART Sites.

g) As used in this Agreement, the term “Artist Materials” means any content uploaded to the DeviantArt Site(s) which may include without limitation Artist’s name(s) (including professional names), trademarks, trade names, likenesses, photographs, biographical materials, audio-visual materials, artwork, liner notes, and other graphical, textual, video, film or audio materials and any and all “skins,” computer-generated images or other artwork or images that Artist submits to DeviantArt in any medium or format whatsoever.

Roger Roger

Yep, I see it. Though I don’t think there’s too much to worry about here.

From what I gather, this set of rules basically says:

“We might publish your work & your name for promotional material, like a book, gallery, or video which compiles other works hosted by deviantArt. You don’t have ownership of that product just because your content is part of it.”

I think it’s a reasonable concern, but this doesn’t look like DeviantArt claiming ownership of your work itself. Just that dA is allowed to use it and you’re not allowed to demand money or ownership of their product.

Copyrights and Stuff

Under most international copyright laws, you automatically own the copyrights to anything you create. This doesn’t change, even if DeviantArt uses your work in a product of theirs. So you still have full ownership of your work.

Though it is worth noting that IDEAS are NOT protected by copyright; what IS protected is the EXPRESSION of those ideas.

That means I totally own the copyrights to my expression of Female Link! Nice! Time to get rich, muwehehehe….

If there’s something I’m particularly cautious about protecting, however, I’d probably seek to host them myself, rather than through deviantArt.

So I’m not too bothered, but I appreciate your looking out for me. Thank you.
